If winter for you means multiples colds, days off work or kids getting sick, embrace immune boosting foods and natural medicine to enjoy winter wellbeing.

How to Super Charge your Immunity   

Did you know you can arm yourself and your family with better immunity?  By incorporating these healthy habits and foods you can give your immune system a head start.

Rest! Give your body a chance to gather strength and make sure you get a good night’s sleep.  

Reducing stress. Stress steals energy and nutrients from your immune system, leaving you susceptible to winter villans.  Some top tips to reduce stress:  schedule time out for you, use this time for creativity and art, massage, walks in nature or any activity to switch off the mind and bring in more joy! 

Eat more fresh veggies. Aim for 3-5 cups of vegetables daily. Fill your plate with a rainbow of colour to provide nutrients and antioxidants that build strong immunity. Lightly cooked vegetables are a nourishing option in winter.

Eliminate inflammatory foods. Sugar, refined carbohydrates, dairy and wheat can all be inflammatory and may suppress immune function.

Using Food as Medicine.  Good nutrition can ward off the colds and flu.  Try this simple immune boosting soup for the whole family. 

WELLBEING LOW CARB CHICKEN SOUP

  • 500g hormone free chicken thighs
  • 1tsp ground turmeric
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp dried parsley
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2/3 cup full fat coconut milk
  • 1 TB grass-fed butter, ghee or coconut oil
  • 4 cups chicken bone broth (or 4 cups of water with added bone broth powder)
  • 1 cup baby carrots
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups chopped kale or spinach

 

Instructions:  

Using a saucepan on medium heat, add the butter and onion and cook until translucent.  Add the garlic and carrot and continue to sauté for 3-5 minutes.  Add the chopped chicken and cook for 3-5 minutes until browned.Add remaining ingredients, stir and cover.  Cook on a low simmer for 30-45 minutes.
